Today, I am thinking about beef jerky, fruit of the gods... well, the more manly gods at least.
My name is Eric and I am a beef-jerky-aholic. If money and profitability were no object, I would absolutely be running one of those gourmet jerky shops right now. If somebody were to put some rabbit or squirrel or endangered black rhinoceros jerky in front of me, I'd eat it without a second thought. Such are the depths of my addiction.
And when it comes to jerky, this local standard is the benchmark for me:
Not too hard, not to soft (moist jerky... yuk), not too spicy or too bland, there is nothing pretentious about it, yet it is commonly decent enough to come with its own toothpick. The drier variety of Tilamook Country jerky is a close runner up, and there are some jerkies that are more nuanced, novel, or exciting in their flavor, but if you just want some good beef jerky, this is your huckleberry. It's good stuff, plain and simple. Get ya some.
Class dismissed.

I too enjoy a dry jerky, but Hard Times is a bit too dry for me. Try Old Luther's Jerky sold at the Beef Jerky Emporium on north May in OKC. Pretty dry, but very meaty stuff...Made from prime rib.
But I agree that Hard Times is about the best stuff you can buy at most any c-store in OK.

There's a Beef Jerky Emporium in OKC? I bet you can't find those just anywhere?
But I bet I go there before long.
Ralph's beef jerky in Northern Oklahoma complemented many bar outings in Stillwater, though it cost much less than the Emporium now charges.

Just had my first taste of Hardtimes jerky. Thought it was great. The only better jerky was some "alien" jerky I got in Roswell, NM, years ago. Also, doesn't have MSG, which causes my wife to have migraines. Good stuff!
